Lost your way in a story?

While reading a good story, I loved to gaze upon the maps that accompany it. It allows me to delve more into the authors mind and view what they wished us to see. Lord of the Rings is no different; J. R. R Tolkien not only designed Maps but entire dilects just to enrich his stories.

Your task is to create a map for Middle Earth. You may choose to complete an entire map or concentrate on a particular section of Middle Eart such as the Shire or a dungeon. I may ask Lanaee if she knows any mapping tutorials for those who like a challenge =)

Rules:

• You may choose to complete an entire map or concentrate on a particular section of Middle Eart such as the Shire or a dungeon.
  
• Can be created using real life materials/mediums or digitally
  
• Art MUST be your own work
  
• No pre-made work
  
• Art must adhere to both Site Rules
  

When you have completed your Challenge piece, post it here with a Screen Shot of your Layers( or a photograph of the piece with you or an "I love Artifex" banner in it), and name your piece =D

Loved this!! I used to always doodle maps as a child, but ive never done anything digitally, I had a hunt around and found a really awesome tutorial series on You Tube linky here
I followed the videos and a few other nifty tips I found online to create this map based on West Farthing in the shire

OMG! I love this challenge I wish I had time to make a map!! A really good site to sign up for and look at tutorials is http://www.cartographersguild.com/. I have found almost all the tutorials I could ever need here using many different programs. I normally check out the ones for photoshop or Gimp. I prefer Photoshop for maps though.
